  On the occasion of the Season Opening, Edward Mitterrand, Gérard Sanz and their director Fabian Lang are pleased to announce a group show featuring the artists exhibited during the third year of existence of the gallery.

  This installation was on show at the Espace A-zéro collective exhibition. It resembles an oversized nest of branches, a leafy, entangled mass arranged in such a way as to form walls of sufficient thickness that they blot out noise and light penetration. A heady aroma of diverse woodland fragrances permeates the inner enclosure, whilst a narrow tunnel forms the only entranceway, forcing visitors to get on all fours to crawl inside and burrow into the darkness...once immured within, a (…)

  Subsequent to the "Mahjong" exhibition (2005), efforts were made to organize an artists’ exchange with China. As of 2007, with the help of the Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei an apartment-studio was set up in Beijing and made available for six months at a time to young Swiss artists. Over a period of two years, the GegenwART foundation and its patron Dr. h.c. Hansjörg Wyss supported this initiative and financed the stay of five artists/artist-couples there.   Zürich dehnt sich in Richtung Westen aus: Diverse in die Höhe spriessende Gebäude wandeln das Stadtbild rasant. Die Konsequenz dieser Veränderungen sind zahlreiche Baustellen, die lebendige Produktionsstätten darstellen. Sie entwickeln sich, wachsen stetig und bieten Raum für vielfältige Möglichkeiten. Mittels der Ausstellung "Tearing Down, Building Up" soll sowohl die tatsächliche als auch die metaphorische Barriere der Baustelle aufgebrochen werden.
